INT. MOTEL ROOM - NIGHT
Dean, Sam and Kate are inside the motel room. Kate is seated
on the bed while Sam and Dean are busy talking to each other.
Kate stares at Dean's lips as he talks. Dean catches a
glimpse of Kate staring. She gets up and moves to the
bathroom.
DEAN
Hey, Sammy?
SAM
Yes Dean.
DEAN
You look like you need little fresh
air man. Why don't you go out,
chill a little?
Sam stares at Dean confused.
DEAN (CONT'D)
Why don't you get a beer? I heard
Filipo's got good beer and they
have great food.
SAM
But I am not hungry.
Dean gives a try to understand look through his eyes. Sam
gets the point.
SAM (CONT'D)

DEAN

your time. No need to hurry.
SAM
So I get to drive your car?
DEAN
Get out Sammy.
Sam grins and moves out closing the door behind him. Sam
removes his jacket and loosens up. Kate comes out of the
bathroom and looks around. Their eyes meet. Dean lifts Kate,
holds her close to his chest and they start kissing.
KATE
Whatever happened to Sam?
DEAN
He wanted a break. So I gave him
little time off.
DEAN (CONT'D)
So where were we?
KATE
Well you were...
They are lost in a passionate kiss.
FADE OUT.

Sam sighs and moves to the couch and tries to sleep while

SAM

that Dean is being a dumb ass.
DEAN
Don't start it man.
SAM

DEAN
She knows enough.
SAM
That's not what I am talking about.

KATE

Dean please tell this is a lie. You

DEAN

KATE

DEAN (CONT'D)
Kate please honey. We can talk

KATE

Urban Harvest: #8
No....no. This was not happening. I paced my steps towards
Will. He was so engrossed in the scene he did not see me sneak behind him. I
pulled a syringe out and pointed it at his neck.
“Debbie... What are you doing?”
“William Hades, tell these men to stop whatever they are
doing or else I am going to plunge this needle deep into your artery.”
“You are not going to do that.”
“That was yesterday Will,” and I plunge the needle deeper.
.....................................................................................................
At this point I am surrounded by security. I can see the
light moving towards Amy.
“Shoot and he dies.”
“Hold it gentlemen.”
“Pull the plug. Now!!!”
I screech.
The plug is pulled. The light disappears back into the pod.
“You there! Break the damn glass and slide that gun towards
me. Do it.”
“Easy Debbie. We can talk it out. There is no need for
anger.”
“Shut up William.”
.....................................................................................................
I carefully pick the Gun and holding William hostage I walk
into the harvest room.
“Pull her out William.”
.....................................................................................................
He carefully pulls out a shivering Amy out the tub. I can
see her lips whimper. I breakdown into tears and Will uses this opportunity to
getaway.
“Amy...
Amy?” I keep calling. Thursday, 21 July 2016
Urban Harvest: #7
She smiled at me and was setting the tray on the table. Her
back was turned. I ran for the door, locking her inside. I tried to maintain my
composure. The voltage fluctuated. It was starting. I ran as fast as my feet
could carry me. I checked for my card. Thankfully it was still with me. I tip
toed to my lab and prepared three syringes, enough to kill William Hades and
anybody else.
.................................................................................................................
The hive was swarming with spectators. I tried to blend in
with the lab technicians. I could see Will at a distance. The lights were oddly
dimmed. They were patiently watching the results from this side of the room
while the vessels were kept in the harvest room.
.................................................................................................................
“The first three didn’t make it,” I heard someone whisper.
.................................................................................................................
I hoped it was not Amy. She was the last in the list. I
tried to contain my anger. I moved closer. I was appalled by what I saw. The
vessels were in a drug induced coma submerged in a tank containing a mixture of
artificially synthesized amniotic fluid and the same plant with the unique
genetic code which aided the outer beings to thrive.
.................................................................................................................
As I stood watching, a
blue light in the form of a sea hydra emerged from one of the pod and made its
way through the nostrils and came out of vessel’s mouth leaving her shrunken.
Watching them made me sick to my stomach. I had to act fast. I ran my fingers
through my scalp till they bled. The experiment was coming to an end. Amy was
next. But wait, her fingers were still moving.

Urban Harvest: #6
I checked the records of all the seven women. They were
runaways, addicts or convicts. They had nobody and nobody was going to come
asking for them. They were already as good as dead. It was as if they never
existed. Was he keeping these women here under false pretext or was he lying
about everything the entire time?
.................................................................................................................................
Without thinking for a second I stormed into Will’s office
and asked for an explanation. What angered me was not his acceptance but his
lack of compassion.
.................................................................................................................................
“So what if they are fugitives? They are already a burden to
the society. The world is better off without them. In fact the world should be
thankful to me for sheltering them under my roof.”
“You call this shelter Will? Look at them. The youngest of
them- Amy. She thinks she’s going to meet her mother, when we both know she is
never getting out of this place. Will, please listen to me. There is still
time. You can stop it.”
.................................................................................................................................
“I am sorry Debbie. It’s already done. I signed the contract
three hours ago.”
“But the contract is invalid without my signature. I am
never going to sign for such a heinous crime.”
“Not anymore. It’s been already taken care of.”
“No...” that’s when I struck him. They tried to pull me off.
I felt a sharp jab of pain on my shoulder.
.................................................................................................................................
At this moment I realized I was
failing.
I heard his mumbled words through the darkness that swept
me.
.................................................................................................................................
When I woke up, my head ached. I looked around and found no
one. I looked at my watch. I had been unconscious for nearly eight hours. My
throat felt dry. I saw a pitcher of water. I had a quick drink.
I had to save them. But, I didn’t know how. That was when I
heard the key turn in the lock. I looked up. It was a nurse I had never met
before.

Urban Harvest: #5
It took me more than a minute to realize what he was planning.
How can a human vessel conceive an alien life? How will the body adapt to such
a change? What if it killed the vessel? What if the offspring happened to be an
abominable being?
.........................................................................................................................................
Will had to shake me off my train of thoughts to listen to
him.
“Hey, I know you got all kinds of questions popping inside
your head. But we know what we need. We are looking at certain factors, certain
genes. We find such people and then we have it. The biggest miracle science has
ever seen.”
.........................................................................................................................................
“We don’t know how it’s going to happen. We can’t let them.
Women may not even agree to this.”
“Debbie darling.... for money, they will agree anything.”
.........................................................................................................................................
I stared at the man standing in front of me. He appeared
like a child whose dream of catching the moon was about to come true. There was
nothing you could do to stop him from achieving it.
With only one day left, Will and I spent most of our time in
the lab, testing again and again each and every sample of the vessels. There
could be no room for any error. I looked
at them through the glass which separated us. They were young women desperate
to do anything.
..........................................................................................................................................
Maybe, I was wrong. This might be their chance to try their
luck at something better. I didn’t realize Will was observing me. He hugged me
from behind and reassured me everything was going to be okay.
We had shortlisted seven women. Amy was the youngest of
them. She looked withdrawn and in a state of melancholy.I tried to ease her out, after all what she was doing was
nothing less than a sacrifice.
“When is my mama coming?” she asked me blandly.
“She will be here
soon,” the nurse replied quickly.

Parallel lines
We saw, we met, we fell
Running together but away
From each other
Neither close nor distant
But together towards the same
We run, never to intersect
Nor ever to connect
Each pursuing his own life
And his own ambition
Alas, we are not one
But two parallel lines
