In the corner of my room
Stands an old wooden chest
Dressed in yesteryear's dust
All things old and broken
Awaiting an unknown fate
I opened the chest to find
A tattered doll of mine
Of fond memories it smelled
A hole filled in my heart
Tears ran down my eyes
She was broken and alone
She didn't have a smile
Her face had lost the shine
I was taken back to another time
another place, another me I saw
The days of pure laughter
Filled with sheer innocence
Happiness running all around
I sat on the old swing
Holding her in my arms
What was once inseparable
Got lost in the track of time
Forgotten or thrown out
To reach for something else
That was never there
What have I missed
In the growing up years
Is it more than just a toy
I hold her closer than ever
For all that is bound her
