The Lovers

Come, settle down with me
The beautiful is yet to be
Said the child to the tree
We grew up together
Watching over each other

I see you I read you
Said the tree to the child
You carry me in your breath
You are mine as I am yours
For all time and every hour

The lovers they were
Each with its own roots
All joined at the heart
 In silence they stood
As a shadow in the dark

The child came every night
Kissing it gently on the sides
Watching the stars cover the sky
And the moon smiling over
Lost in a world beyond theirs

Until the day all broke lose
No hands raised for help
No ears turned all eyes closed
She ran, bloody her nose
In torn clothes and she ran

Into the forest she ran
To her dear love, her life
She cried, 'Take me my tree'
The tree opened wide
Taking her inside him

She found solace in her tree
And she held him tight
The tree closed right
All in a flash of a light
And all they heard was a crack

Then came a thunder and
 Sound of breaking timber
And gone was the child
And gone was the tree
Leaving all baffled and blind
